Talk to your site visitors

The primary responsibility of your web site is to communicate with the visitors. Sometimes, such a communication is two way like that in blogs. However, in most of the cases, a web site interacts with visitors even before they are ready to share their opinion. It is considered the site owner and the designer’s responsibility to ensure a clear message is communicated to the site visitors. So, regardless of whether your site belongs to the category of a portfolio site, a blog, an e-commerce site or a corporate site, you should keep the following factors in mind to make sure that visitors to your site get the clear message intended for them:
  • Headlines: Your headline, an important factor of online communication, should tell readers what the page or the article is all about. At the same time, it should entice the readers to dig deeper. A quality headline can create an incredible impact by attracting several people who go on to read the complete content.
  • Sub Headers: To make your content reader friendly, break it down under some sub headers. Besides making your content structured, it will also help the readers to scan the content quickly and understand what is the subject that is being talked about.
  • Content: As the content of a web page is one of the key factors of communicating with visitors, care should be taken. The content writers should be selective about their words so that the intended message is passed on to the readers. Different types of web sites need different approaches when it comes to the amount of text. For example, an e-commerce site won’t have too much of text as its primary purpose is to communicate the details of the products on offer. So, it will have very brief and to the point content that will encourage sales but not discourage readers by being too elaborate or descriptive in nature. On the other hand, a blog thrives on content and will have a lot of it.
  • Taglines: It is not necessity to use taglines but if you decide to use them, you can do so in an effective manner. An effective tagline should be short, memorable and able to talk about the company and its products/services easily. A good tagline will also be helpful for branding purposes.
  • Branding/Logo: A well-designed, quality logo will help your web site communicate some basic information to your customers like what your company is all about and the products/services on offer. A good logo having a professional look will also help in building your brand’s name among your visitors.
  • Colors: As colors have a subtle impact on the visitors, you need to choose them in a way that complements the overall theme and helps in communicating the company message.
  • Images: As an average web site visitor has a tendency of moving away from a web page within seconds of landing, using interesting images on the site can be of help. Such images that complement the content will not only improve your site’s overall appearance but also help in retaining the web surfers who have landed at your web site.
The aforesaid factors coupled with some other points like a good site layout, user friendly navigation, ease of accessibility etc. are things that should be kept in mind to make your site communicate with your readers without difficulty.
