When web surfers need any information online or want to buy things, they use the search engines to find the same. Usually the word/phrases that they use are called keywords. A web surfer begins with a general keyword and then narrows down his search to find what he/she needs.

For example, the web surfer who has got information about MP3 player may have decided now that he/she wants to buy a 1 GB Mp3 Player or an USB stick MP3 player. So, he/she will use more specific keywords like “Samsung MP3 player”, “1 GB Mp3 Player”, “MP3 player under $100” or “USB stick MP3 player”.
People who use these types of keywords are ready to make their purchase. These types of keywords are the best to target for your web site’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization) campaign. These types of words usually have lesser search volume as compared to the first category. Moreover, it is easier to get a top 10 rank in the search engine results for these keywords.
Keywords used for purchasing: During this last phase, the web surfer has already made his/her mind to buy the products/services. The buyer is now checking various sites to find which one has the best offer. So, these users use very specific keywords.
For example, the web surfer who has decided to buy a Samsung MP3 player will now use keywords like:
- Samsung yepp YP-T7JX 512MB
- Samsung YP-S2ZW 1GB Flash MP3 Player
- Samsung YP-Z5ZB 1GB MP3 Player
Web surfers who use such keywords are ready to purchase the products/services. However, targeting these keywords won’t help you much if you are offering competing products/services.
In order to maximize the results of your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plan, it is best to target the keywords for comparing. This is because people who use such keywords are looking for an answer to their query and are more ready to purchase as compared to the other groups of web surfers.
