Keyword Optimization
Most people use the search engines to find something that they need. These people usually use a group of words to search the web. You need to optimize your web pages for your targeted keywords. If you do this, your web site will show up in the search engine results when that particular phrase or the group of words is searched for.
As a starter, you will do better to target a group of words related to your niche. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, it would be difficult to promote your web site for single words. Secondly, it will be very difficult to rank for competitive and single keywords as a newcomer. Say, you are a web design company with a newly launched web site. Now, if you target the keyword “web design”, you will have a stiff competition as the web sites already there for years on the World Wide Web are in an advantageous position (regarding search engine rankings) as compared to you. So, instead of targeting the highly competitive words that will perhaps get you a rank on the tenth page of the search engine results, target something like “LA website design”, “Los Angeles Website Design” or “Los Angeles web design” that would be easier to rank for. Remember that most people don’t go beyond the first page of the search engine results. That’s why it pays to get ranked in the first page for a less competitive keyword than languishing on the tenth page for a word with high search volume.
Once you achieve search engine rankings with these keywords, the search engines will recognize that your web site is relevant to web design. So, it will be much easier to gain high rankings for these competitive keywords in the second phase.
