Building links for your web site
Once your web site is live, you need to build links pointing to your site. Google gives a lot of importance to quality inbound links. If a web site has a link pointing to your web site, it is taken as a vote in favor of your site by that website which hosts the link. The more quality the host site has, the more value your inbound link gets. So, to make your presence felt on the web and climb the search engine rankings, your site should have quality backlinks (often called inlinks).
Though different people have different ways of building links, you can try these three ways in the initial stages to garner valuable backlinks:
- Creating your own links
- Buying links
- Recruiting links
Creating your own links: In case you own any other website except the one on which you are working upon, you have an easy option of creating your own links. You can place links in those existing sites that point to your new site at no extra expense. Such backlinks will help you to promote your newly launched web site. If you don’t have any other website, no need to fret and fume. You can make posts on various blogs and forums related to your niche. Such posts will have a signature or place where you can put your web site URL. However, getting such backlinks can be tricky. Some forums won’t allow you to have links in the signature unless you have been a member for at least 24-hours/a week or have made a minimum of 25 posts. These rules vary from forum to forum. Even then, it will not take too much of an effort to register at such forums and start posting.
While submitting comments on blogs, it is better to search for dofollow blogs so that some link juice is passed on to your site URL. Remember to take a few minutes in order to scan the post and make comments that take the ongoing discussions further. Useless comments like a “nice post”, “thanks for sharing” and similar stuff are usually flagged as spam and never get published. So, make useful comments so that they are approved, go live and you get a backlink in return.
You may be wondering now: How do I find good blogs and forums where I can participate or put comments? Well, that’s not a difficult job. Suppose, you have a site related to web site design and development. You simply need to search for “web design forum”, website design forum”, “website development forum”, “web design blogs” etc using some of your targeted keywords with the word “blog” or “forum”. The results that you come up with will give you a list that you can start with.
Though there are several other ways to get backlinks, you can start your work with these steps.
Buying links: Though this is not the best way, still many believe that it is the easiest way that can get backlinks for your site. Though Google is known to oppose buying links, still it works. You can sign up in some paid directories to buy links. Some directories offer backlinks for free but may require more effort and time.
Recruiting links: The hardest but yet the best way to get backlinks for your site. It works on the principle of “linkbaiting”. Linkbait refers to content that is useful and interesting at the same time. It can be textual content or even some artworks, videos or other resources. When people will find the content useful and interesting, they will start linking to it, on their own. You may use social networking or social bookmarking websites and/or tools such as StumbleUpon, Digg, Reditt, del.icio.us etc. to help your visitors bookmark the site with ease and spread the word.
So, get started with your link-building schedule today.
