Article writing-steps to remember

Writing articles and submitting them to various article submission sites is a popular way of getting backlinks and traffic. However, there are certain steps that should be kept in mind to avoid your articles being rejected by these platforms.

Most article publishers prefer short articles, which offer the information in a compact form. While the word count is 300 for some, it may climb to 700 for some others. So, an article with 400-500 words will do fine with most of these online article publishing platforms. When you write your article, it is advisable to use a text editor like NotePad instead of the standard word processing programs. This is because the latter does not allow proper formatting facilities.

The following are some quick-check points for you that will help your article get published:

• Adhere to submission guidelines: Before you submit your articles, take time to read the guidelines. If your articles don't follow the submission guidelines, it will get deleted in most of the cases.


• Format it properly:  Ensure to format your article properly. As publishers receive a big volume of articles everyday, they won't waste time to format your article. It is most likely that they will simply hit the delete button for your article and move on to review the next article submission.


• Keep brief bylines:  Stick to brief bylines. Don’t use excessively long bylines, as publishers prefer to publish articles that use short bylines.


• Choose a powerful heading:  The heading of your article should be brief, powerful and use relevant keywords. Choose a title that draws the attention of your readers and make them curious to dig for more.


• Use proper spelling and grammar:  Keep your article free of grammatical or spelling mistakes. Once you have finished writing your article, read it quite a few times to ensure that everything is correct. It is also advisable to use the spell check before you submit your article. Remember that publishers don’t have the time to edit your article. So, some silly grammatical or spelling mistakes will mean that your article never gets published.


• Provide information, not a sales letter:  Don’t make your article sound like a sales letter. Article publishers look for quality content. So, they will not think twice before deleting something that offers no useful information and is merely a write-up to drive sales. 


• Avoid including affiliate URLs:  Try not to direct your article readers to affiliate links unless you want to take your readers to some really noteworthy sources. Using random affiliate links in the body of your article will make it appear untrustworthy and biased to the listed URLs, which may even result in your article not being accepted for publication.


• Share your expertise:  Write your articles to share your experience and expertise, with a desire to inform and teach your readers. Don’t fake something that you don’t know. Rather, focus on things that you know well and can share with others in a confident manner.
